  3. 11 mai 2019 · So, just imagine someone being tied up and set free. It seems to me that only "free from" can be used in a passive structure: "The prisoners were freed from the enemy." The passive sounds quite odd with "free of": "The prisoners were freed of dirt." Dirt (typically) isn't a constraint. Watch out for metaphors though.
