If words sound completely different then the speaker will learn the new word. On the other hand if words are close like English "School" and Russian "Shkoola" they will often say the native word instead. It seems to come from a cognitive load idea. There are so many words to learn, why not just leave these for last.

31 mai 2021 · The main character speaks in a argot of Russian and English when is he on the streets, leading a band of drug-fuelled hyper-violent malchicks against other gangs and citizenry, but he speaks very eloquently when talking with authorities and people whom he can't intimidate or beat up. I think much of his inner dialog is also presented in this street language.

Phrases in one made-up language here and there may be good for creating a sense of authenticity, but long passages in different languages would turn the book into a linguistic exercise that can be too much for a regular reader.
Mix and match as appropriate for your story. The simplest one: for a conversation between two people, don't give attributions like "he said", but just state it. If it's going to be a lengthy conversation, you can also throw names into their speech. "Hey Sally, check it out - I found an important clue!"
21 mars 2018 · On the other hand English: It's a bit harder for me to write a blog in (I have written 2 blogs in 6 months) and I'm afraid that not mastering the language could hold me back many times. But with English, I could target much larger audience and improve my writing skills.
